After spending 27 years managing a related family hardwood company (West Coast Hardwood and Vancouver Sawmills) where he forged deep relationships with log providers and industry professionals, Robert (Bob) and Sylvia Carl incorporated CarlWood Lumber Limited in 1984.
Their goal was to create a business based on its reputation and ability to deliver.
Sylvia Carl passed in 2024 and is missed by family and friends. She kept Bob and CarlWood on a straight path and endured through lots of ups and downs in business.

West Coast Hardwoods was owned by Robert McGregor which operated from the mid 40’s till the mid 1980’s.
Today, Bob has over 70 years of lumber business experience and serves as the patriarch of CarlWood.
From its beginnings as a small distribution warehouse in North Vancouver, Bob Carl, with colleagues Chris Pistilli and Randy Bishop, grew CarlWood into being one of the most reliable hardwood manufacturers in our home province of British Columbia. Hide Ueda joining in 2012 and has stretched our marketing to other markets.
The goals for CarlWood remain the same today as they were during its founding: to offer the most dependable service and delivery; to supply quality hardwood and softwood products; to uphold our reputation as a sustainable business, run with integrity for its customers and employees; and to be a responsible steward and practitioner of this amazing natural resource.
Doug Carl, serves today as the President of the company. Committed to strong principles of excellence for his customers.
Cathy Carl, has been instrumental in moving the company forward since 2007. She brings a wealth of knowledge to CarlWood having worked for small businesses since the 1990s.
